About the program
iCreate is an elective program unique to Westall Secondary College where students can explore their passions and build capabilities in their chosen subject area. iCreate forms part of each student’s program for all students in Years 7-12. It runs every Wednesday afternoon for half the day and is a great opportunity for students to integrate into the Westall community, whilst building capabilities and developing skills in their area of interest.


Student-driven projects make up a core component of these subjects, ensuring student voice and agency drive their direction. Students are assessed against the following areas from the Victorian Curriculum General Capabilities:

Aviation
The Aviation program offers students a pathway into the Aviation industry. This program involves a partnership with Tristar International Flight School based at Moorabbin Airport and will cover all aspects of the aviation industry including the pathway to becoming a pilot.
Boxing
The purpose of the boxing iCreate is to teach the sweet science of boxing. Boxing is an ancient and practical martial art form. There exists a misconception that boxing is about release of aggression, emotion and feeling. This is incorrect. Contrarily, boxing is about maintaining control, keeping calm, cool and relaxed, and staying focused. Boxing teaches fitness. It teaches control. It teaches discipline.
Coding and Digital Design
We live in the digital age: Code and technology power our digital world. Every digital device we own, website we visit, smartphone app we use, TV, calculator, microwave oven and even musical birthday card relies on code in order to operate. Along with code, Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) and Computer aided Manufacturing (CAM) help us engineer and make new devices. This makes coders and makers the architects and builders of the digital age. This subject aims to provide the opportunity to learn how to create code and use state-of-the are 2 and 3D manufacturing tools.
Masters of the Metaverse
This subject develops students’ social, ethical, and technological awareness of social media, covering topics like ethics, algorithms, and advertising while engaging with Victorian cross-curriculum capabilities. It enhances employability by teaching social media management and involves students in promoting the school through supervised campaigns. Each year features a new theme, with hands-on projects where students create various social media content types (e.g., podcasts, Instagram series, TikTok videos) and reflect on their work in a creative way, offering future improvements and strategies.
Duke of Edinburgh Certificate – Adventurous Journey
The Duke of Edinburgh’s (DoE) Award is a prestigious achievement program for young people, valued by universities, colleges, and employers. It promotes independence, leadership, teamwork, and commitment through a personalized program. Students will develop skills, improve physical well-being, volunteer in their community, and take part in a team adventure. Completing the program leads to a globally recognized certificate.
Landscape, Architecture & Design
If you want to improve the school’s environment through Design and Technology, this subject is for you. You’ll explore best design practices through excursions to award-winning spaces, use drawing and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to create proposals for school committees, and help select tools and materials for each project. You’ll also evaluate the success of the designs and have opportunities to volunteer in local schools, parks, gardens, and at Westall.
Master the Westall Café
Westall Café offers students the chance to run a busy café, taking on roles such as menu design, cooking, and mastering beverage preparation. Students will also handle the business side, including marketing, promotions, ordering, budgets, and managing profit/loss. Throughout the year, they participate in special events like food culture excursions, mystery box challenges, primary school events, and cooking for the Westall Café team.
Dance
Dance is a practical subject for students interested in dance, with no prior experience needed. Students develop skills in various dance styles and build performance confidence through weekly lessons at Ascendent Dance Company. They learn from professional instructors and have the chance to choreograph their own routines.
Visual Arts
Visual Arts is a hands-on program where students explore their creative ideas using both two- and three-dimensional media. They develop skills in materials, processes, techniques, and technology, working both independently and collaboratively. The program allows students to focus on areas they are passionate about, creating and expressing in a relaxed environment. Students gain experience through workshops with professional artists and visits to various exhibition spaces.
Martial Arts (Taekwondo)
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art practiced globally and featured in the Olympics. It enhances fitness, confidence, discipline, and allows students to develop leadership and collaborate across year levels. The program is run by an external Taekwondo school and led by a black belt Sensei. Grading is conducted each term to assess progress through belt levels, from white to black belt, and includes Poomsae, self-defense, sparring, combination kicks, and board breaking for black belts.
Rugby Academy
Students implement high-performance conditioning and injury prevention programs, focusing on long-term athlete development and skill-building in Rugby League. They use technology like GPS, video analysis, fitness testing, and sport science, and learn from external coaches to meet the physical and mental demands of the game. Students also earn a mini/mod league referee certificate, enabling them to get involved with clubs on weekends.
Sports and Leisure
Sports and Leisure develops students’ skills, confidence, and understanding in various physical activities. Students participate in individual and team sports, learning rules, tactics, and movement skills to improve performance. They also take on roles like umpire, coach, player, and administrator, organizing parts of sporting competitions and engaging in community sports.
STEM
Students learn that science involves gaining knowledge through investigations, experiments, and problem-solving. They explore topics like Botany, Neurology, and Zoology, using tools to record findings. Students also engage in hands-on projects, such as Rotor Egg Drop and Bottle Rocket, while covering fields like Forensic Science, Nanotechnology, and Robotics.
Volleyball Academy
Volleyball Academy focuses on developing students’ skills, knowledge, and understanding of volleyball through training, video analysis, and gameplay. With internal and external coaches, students enhance their fitness, tactics, and volleyball-specific skills. They participate in weekly training, match play, and learn refereeing skills and the rules of the game.
Elite Training
This program helps students design, implement, and monitor a conditioning plan focused on fitness or sports, aiming for elite-level performance. Students set goals for their fitness or sports journey and develop knowledge in strength training, nutrition, and recovery while tracking their progress throughout the program.
Study Space (Year 11 and 12)
Study Space and tutoring provide senior students with an opportunity to manage their study program and succeed in VCE. It helps students develop personal learning skills like time management and resource use for coursework, SACs, and exam preparation. Specialized teachers and university tutors offer individual and group support, while students work both independently and in small peer groups. Every Wednesday, students bring coursework to revise, complete tasks, and prepare for exams.
