Junior School
Years 7 and 8
At Westall Secondary College, our Junior Sub-School provides a nurturing and caring environment, aiding in the smooth transition from primary to secondary schooling. Our team of dedicated Junior School teachers will often teach students for multiple subjects, an approach that helps foster positive relationships and allows the school to understand students’ unique learning and wellbeing needs and personalise the learning to suit each of them.
To ensure our new students feel comfortable, confident and part of the Westall community, we run a specialised Orientation Program in the first week of Year 7.

Wellbeing
At Westall Secondary College, we acknowledge the importance of developing students’ knowledge, skills and supports in their social and emotional wellbeing. In the Junior School, we have a dedicated and explicit wellbeing program (Brain Care). This curriculum teaches practical concepts and strategies to build positive peer relationship skills through a culture of respect, care and collaboration. We also utilise the Resilience Project, an evidenced-based program that aims to support students’ mental health in the classroom and family home. The program aims to build knowledge, skills and capabilities through three key pillars that have been proven to cultivate positive emotion: gratitude, empathy and mindfulness. Our BrainCare program focuses on building emotional literacy as a foundational skill, so students can practise these strategies.
